Welcoming 2024

Hi all, I’ve neglected the blog since the start of the year (hence, “Welcoming 2024”) as there’s been a lack of things to report on, but consider this a collection of your January to March updates.

Chair of Public Transport

In January, elections surrounding campaign and project groups took place, and I successfully put myself forward to be the chair of the Public Tranpsort campaign group. This will place me in an administrative role, with my main aims and responsibilities being to support the group in their actions and goals.

The group has decided to split in twain, with one subgroup trying to implement an Oyster-style smartcard within Kent and the other group focussing more on violence and crime on transport and how they can tackle it. I look forward in supporting both groups in achieving their end results.

UKYP elections 2024

Yesterday, at the March KYCC meeting, your local representatives had the opportunity to select Kent MYPs for 2024-25. Out of 36 individuals, I am one of the 8 successful, and I’d like to thank everyone who helped me achieve this.

UKYP means a lot to me, and as such you can take confidence in high-quality representation that will adequately present your priorities to those in the highest positions of power. I will not take this opportunity for granted.

I have already been an MYP for two years, but this can’t be the end.

I’d also like to shout out the following for also joining me in becoming Kentish MYPs:

  • Alya
  • Justice
  • Rakan
  • Shreya
  • Sukhpreet
  • Tiyamike
  • William

I look forward to working with all of you in the future, and together we will stand united to make Kent, and the UK, a better place for young people.

I would also like to congratulate Kay and Perla as they are now Kent’s youth reps, and will represent us in the British Youth Council. I’ve known both for a while now and they’ll do a great job.

Finally, a shout out to everyone who ran but didn’t win. It was a tough competition for some highly-sought seats and every candidate presented themselves well. It takes guts to run in an election like that, and you’ll all go far in the future.

And that’s your whistle-stop tour. I’ll be back to your regularly scheduled blog posts soon enough, but in the meanwhile, be safe in the knowledge that, with two more years under my belt, I’ll always be working away in the background, and I’ll always be working for you.
