Hi all, this is just a quick post updating you on some recent UKYP-related news and my thoughts & plans regarding it.
UKYP Grant awarded to the British Youth Council
The Department for Culture, Media, and Sport have announced that BYC has won the 2023-25 grant to run UKYP! It’s great to hear this news, as BYC has been running the current programme very well from my experience, and I fully trust them to continue doing so for years to come.
Interestingly, the article announcing the award says this…
DCMS has relaunched the UK Youth Parliament programme to increase engagement with young people from across the UK, including with more marginalised young people and those that may not normally take part in a youth voice programme.
Department for Culture, Media and Sport and The Rt Hon Stuart Andrew MP
…so it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out in the future.
You can read more on this from the GOV.UK website and BYC’s website.
New ‘Food for Learning’ campaign
BYC has just announced the details regarding it’s new ‘Food for learning’ campaign in conjunction with the Child Poverty Action group (CPAG), which aims to extend free school meals to everyone. This is a campaign I fully support and will be taking action on to the best of my abilities.
Unfortunately, due to how recent the details are, I am unable to share specifics on what me and the other Kent MYPs will do, however, I will endeavour to:
- Reach out to local MPs regarding the campaign
- Invite Kent MPs to a ‘Spill The Tea’ event (more details on the website, linked at the end)
- Liaise with schools on possible campaigning
- Continued interaction with UKYP and BYC through events such as YouthCon
There’s so much more to come and I can’t wait to get stuck into the campaign.
You can read more on BYC’s website.
And that’s all for this special update. Make sure you’ve followed me on twitter and instagram to get news as it happens.
Thanks for reading,
Hadyn
