Your March Update

Some sparse albeit big news this month, so let’s jump right in.

Electoral Commission Young Champions (E-COMM YC) Project

The month started out with an invite up to London from the Participation People, as part of the E-COMM YC project I’ve been involved in. We spent a weekend making informative videos for young people around voting, and I can’t wait for all of you to see them! All the videos have been completed, and now only have to traverse the bureaucracy of the Electoral Commission. Unfortunately, this does bring the project to an end which is truly a shame. To all of the friends I met there, and the workers running it, thanks for making my Wednesday afternoons much better.

If you want to know when the videos get released (trust me, you will), subscribe to the blog! They’ll likely be part of a monthly update in the future, and in the meantime you’ll get a wonderful newsletter about all that goes on in the youth voice world. No spam, I promise.

Kent Youth County Council

Chair/Vice chair elections

Congrats to Liv for being elected as our new chair and Precious for being elected as our new vice-chair! I’m confident that they’ll make the next year a great one.

Feeling Safe in Kent (FSiK) campaign group

Another congrats to Justice for being elected as our campaign group chair and Elani for being elected as our vice chair! I can’t wait to see the amaizing work that comes out of our group under your leadership.

In the Ask for Angela department, lots of progress was made. We’ve now agreed on (rough) designs, marketing tactics, and a whole lot more. It’s now time to take action.

UK Youth Parliament project group

Firstly, a massive thank you to all the Kentish MYPs who chose to vote for me as project group chair! I’m so excited to get stuck into the role and promise that your experience under my leadership shall be the best I can deliver. On the same note, congrats to Michael for being elected my vice chair! There couldn’t be someone better.

In regards to what we did, we mainly heard from Trading Standards surrounding vaping in Kent. We recieved information on what they do, the state of the problem, and how they’re fixing it. I’ll now aim to establish what our course of action is.

UK Youth Parliament

To end the month, I attended a meeting with UKYP surrounding our newest campaign. There’s already a detailed blog post on it here, but TLDR: UKYP has establised a campaign with teh Child Poverty Action Group, aiming to bring universal free school meals to the UK.

We recieved plenty of information on the campaign, and I’ll be sure to engage with key decisionmakers on this important issue. I’ll be sharing updates as things develop.

Who knew March would end up being shorter than February? Anyhow, I need to go bask in the glory of my new role (translation – do work), so thanks for reading and see you next month!
