Not much happened this month, so let’s get straight into it.
Kent Youth County Council
Joint session
We need your help! KYCC is currently running two surveys (as well as promoting a third) and it’d be great if you were to contribute to them.
Attitudes on Sustainable Development Goals in the UK
This survey is being conducted by Kent Young Researchers, supported by Kent Youth Voice and the University of Kent. It will ask you your opinions about different issues in the UK and around the world that our society faces to see what you think about these issues and whether we need to act on them. By entering this survey, you have the chance to win a £50 voucher.
Requirements:
- Aged 10+
- Fluent in English
Attending A&E or Minor Injuries unit (MIU) for Mental Health Support
This survey is being conducted by the Kent Resilience Hub, in order to improve mental health services in A&E and MIUs. The survey can be done completely anonymously.
Requirements:
- Aged 11-16
- Living in Kent
- Have been to A&E or MIU for mental health support
Parent/Carer Attitudes to LGBTQ+ Topics
This survey is being conducted by KYCC in order to help understand how parents and carers feel about LGBTQ+ topics, so that we can create resources which increase understanding and awareness about supporting young LGBTQ+ people in Kent. The survey is completely anonymous.
Requirements:
- Parent/Carer of a young person aged 0-18
- Response submitted before 19/06/2023
As well as all of these surveys, you also have the opportunity to present the Spirit of TryAngle awards! Details are available below.

Feeling Safe in Kent (FSiK) campaign group
Thanks to the whims of the train unions, we were unable to hold a physical meeting, meaning that the FSiK group could not subdivide itself like it usually does. So, if you see something that doesn’t line up to previous blog posts, that’s why.
Vaping subgroup – This subgroup has almost completed their presentation for schools, and a poster is in the works.
Public Safety subgroup – Our subgroup has discussed meeting with Maidstone Borough Council as they are planning to create a physical space in line with our goals. Once this is set up, we will look at if a similar model could work in other places, or different approaches we could take.
Self Defence subgroup – This subgroup has planned to contact youth hub managers in select areas in the county to gauge interest in self-defence lessons.
Miscellaneous – The group as a whole would like to meet with Kent Police, as they plan to run a Violence Against Women and Girls event later this year, and they want our involvement in this.
UK Youth Parliament @ KYCC
We started out by checking up on any progress in regards to the campaign of ‘Food for Learning’, as discussed in this blog post. Unfortunately little success has been had, so we plan to begin contacting local politicans lower down in the local government ladder.
On the vaping campaign side, we have decided a direction for our vaping campaign, being packaging. We will look at how we can take this further. As well as this, we answered the government’s call for evidence on youth vaping.
And that’s it for May! Be sure to take a look at the opportunities on offer, and have a happy and safe pride month everyone.
