Your June Update

Hey folks, hope you all had a happy and festive Pride month. Let’s get into the updates.

Kent Youth County Council

Feeling Safe in Kent (Public Safety Subcommittee)

We have recieved the necessary permissions to move ahead with our Ask for Angela campaign! To support the upcoming launch (date TBC), we are in the process of designing advertising for the scheme, as well as looking at available social media opportunities. We have also drafted a list of target businesses.

The team were also invited to give their suggestions for a new “safe space” in Maidstone, which we happily did. Hopefully Maidstone Borough Council will want to work further with us on this initiative.

UK Youth Parliament @ KYCC

We began by discussing two upcoming events: YouthCon (which I have already been to and will be in next month’s blog post) and the Annual Conference (which hasn’t happened yet and will get it’s own special post soon). Both of these events are exciting opportunities to network and recieve training, so I’m grateful that my work continues to allow me to experience things like this.

We then moved onto UKYP’s Food for Learning campaing. Progress has been slow in this region, I will admit, as we are finding that many MPs simply don’t respond to emails. We hope to still be able to add to the national movement, and will continue to support the British Youth Council in this regard.

Finally, we discussed our vaping campaign. Our worker has met with some individuals in Kent County Council’s public health team, and she has some more meetings scheduled to discuss the matter. We then agreed to focus our campaign of vape cpackaging, as we felt it had the strongest movement behind it, and we will begin to organise a campaign summit with other advocates and decision-makers on the matter.

VRU Workshop

At the very beginning of June, I had the opportunity to meet up with a charity working on behalf of the Kent Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) to create some campaign videos around key topics like bullying, domestic violence, and being a bystander to a crime. Myself and others worked to ensure the videos were a s realistic as possible, giving feedback on what was right and what wouldn’t work. When the videos are published, I’ll be sure to share them with you all.

And, in other news…

New video out on my Youtube channel!

So that was my June! Safe to say a tad more eventful than previous months, but I have a feeling that July will be a much bigger month, and in more ways than one…

See you then, and subscribe to make sure you don’t miss it!
